On 05 August 2022, as our country celebrated World Breastfeeding Week, the Inner Wheel Club of Borivli organized an informative Breastfeeding Awareness Session to promote maternal and child health. The awareness program was conducted by our esteemed member, PDC Dr. Madhavi Pandya, at her hospital, Pandya Surgical & Maternity Hospital.
During the session, Dr. Madhavi Pandya explained in detail the critical importance of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers. She highlighted that breastfeeding plays a vital role in the survival, nutrition, and overall development of infants and young children. Breast milk provides essential nutrients, protects newborns from infections, helps in developing immunity, and supports healthy digestion and optimal growth.
Dr. Pandya also emphasized that breastfeeding strengthens the emotional bond between mother and baby. The close physical contact during breastfeeding provides a sense of security to the child and contributes positively to their psychosocial and emotional development later in life.
It was explained that after childbirth, mothers are advised to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first six months. After this period, breastfeeding should continue along with the introduction of appropriate solid foods, up to 24 months or longer, depending on the comfort and needs of both mother and child.
The session was attended by President Jigna Mistry, Vice President Bhavana Kapadia, and Secretary Jaynisha Sampat, whose presence added encouragement and support to this meaningful initiative.
This awareness program successfully reinforced the importance of breastfeeding as a natural, healthy, and life-saving practice, aligning with Inner Wheel’s commitment to community health, education, and women’s well-being.
