On 19 October 2022, the Inner Wheel Club of Borivli organized an impactful Cervical Cancer Awareness Seminar at M.P.S. Poisar Hindi U.P. School, Borivli (W). The session was attended by over 50 parents, 25 teachers, and more than 100 students, reflecting the community’s interest in preventive healthcare and awareness.

The seminar featured a PPT presentation by Dr. Vidya Patil, an esteemed member of IWCB, who explained in detail the causes, symptoms, detection methods, and vaccines for cervical cancer. She emphasized that girls and women aged 9 to 45 years should take the cervical cancer vaccine, which costs ₹4,500 in private hospitals and is expected to be available at ₹400 in government hospitals soon.

In a special gesture, parents were gifted nutritious snacks, and children received Choco pies to mark the occasion of Diwali. The school also celebrated the achievement of Mrs. Savita Ved Prakash Yadav, a teacher who has consecutively won the Adarsh Sikshak Mumbai Mayor Award for the past two years.

Additionally, Mr. Kishor from Shatabdi Hospital (TB Department) spoke about the rising cases of tuberculosis in the Poisar area, educating attendees on causes, spread, precautions, and free treatment options provided by the government. He highlighted India’s vision to be TB-free by 2025 with community awareness and vigilance.

The seminar was coordinated by Principal Geeta Madam and supported by President Jigna Mistry, Secretary Jaynisha Sampat, Treasurer Sonal Davda, Executive Member Suvarna Parekh, PP Ketal Tapiawala, PP Meena Kaku, Asha Sanghavi, and Bhairavi Desai.

The event reinforced the importance of health awareness, preventive care, and community education, echoing the words of Marie Curie:
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
